Soil School

Soil School 2015 will be a day packed full of information for small farmers, landscapers, gardeners, grounds managers and anyone else who wants to improve their soil. The event is sponsored by East and West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Oregon Tilth, OSU Small Farms Program and OSU Master Gardeners.

Attendees will learn about soil structure, texture and composition, as well as using beneficial insects and how to improve your soil through cover crops. Other topics will include organic weed control, control of slugs and snails, efficient irrigation and lawn replacement with low-maintenance native ground covers and grasses.

Soil School will take place from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the PCC Rock Creek Event Center (17705 NW Springville Road, Portland). Cost is $30 per person, or $50 for two people, and includes breakfast snacks and lunch.
